Review: Xite Peanut Butter Nuggets

OK, Xite. Your bizarre fixation on confounding edible dosages is getting a little ridiculous. This is the fourth product of yours that I’ve reviewed and every single one of them has weird or baffling dosage issues and the Xite Peanut Butter Nuggets are no exception.
There’s the hard candy that has 2 mg of THC per candy, making a 5 mg dose virtually impossible without a sharp knife. Then there was the popcorn with no dosage information at all, so I had no idea how much I was taking. And the chocolate minis, three of them, with 15 mg of THC each, required so much geometry to cut up into 5 mg doses that I just gave up.
And here we are again: three peanut butter nuggets with 15 mg each. Once again, not only are you robbing us of 5 mg by selling a 45 mg package, but getting out a knife and cutting each nugget into thirds is way more work than most stoners want. I’d be more annoyed if your products weren’t such good performers. Let’s get into it.
Xite Peanut Butter Nuggets Test 1 (5-ish mg)
I did my absolute best to cut a nugget into thirds, but who knows?
I did Xite a solid and conducted this test with a rotisserie chicken accompaniment, which always seems to boost edible performance. Onset took roughly 40 minutes, give or take five minutes. I can’t be sure, because I was so preoccupied with getting exactly 5 mg worth of nugget that I forgot to start my timer.
I hit the peak at about the one hour mark, which was, annoyingly, a respectable high. Almost perfect for a work night. Definitely buzzing hard, but not so much that I was worried about the hangover the next day. (There wasn’t one, that I could detect.)
I went to bed at the 2.5-hour mark, so I can’t say how long it took for the fade to begin.
Test 2 (5-ish mg)
Now that I already had a nugget cut roughly into thirds, this test went a little more smoothly. Onset took about 35 minutes and I hit the peak at almost precisely the one-hour mark. The buzz was the same as Test 1, even though I ate a less THC-friendly meal with the edible (pesto chicken).
I went to bed well after the three-hour mark and I was still at peak buzz, which is rare and a little amazing. Again no hangover the next day that I could detect.
Test 3 (10-ish mg)
The requisite 10 mg test (the normal dosage outside of Minnesota) was impressive. As I’ve said before, doubling the THC doesn’t necessarily mean double the buzz. In fact, that’s unusual. But with the Xite Peanut Butter Nuggets, I was exactly twice as stoned as the 5 mg tests. Though I should remind everyone that I was eyeballing the portions, so I might have ingested more than 10 mg.
Onset took about 45 minutes and after a breathtakingly fast build-up, I reached the peak a little after the one-hour mark. Or so I thought. There was a late spike 30 minutes later, possibly due to several handfuls of chocolate I ate, that brought me up to a Friday night serious buzz. I detected a fade at the 3.5 hour mark which is expected. I did have a bit of a weed hangover the next morning, but nothing I couldn’t power through.
The straight dope on Xite Peanut Butter Nuggets
I did all the possible bitching about dosages already, so I won’t repeat it except to say, for the love of god why?
Fortunately, perhaps due to the missing 5 mg of THC, this product is priced lower than most, making it a good value, if you don’t count all the time one spends unraveling dosages. (OK, now I’m done bitching.)
Otherwise, once again the Xite products out-performed most of their competitors. Strong buzz, good staying power and decent onset times. If all you want is an instant 15 mg dose, this product kicks ass. And the chocolate-covered peanut butter tastes divine.
