Review: Xite THC Popcorn (caramel)

Regular readers will know that Xite has either intentionally or accidentally developed a penchant for putting out products with THC dosages ranging from unusual to baffling. Xite THC popcorn is firmly on the baffling side of the spectrum.
Let’s do quick review. First there are the Xite hard candies. Great product, but the candies contain 2 mg of THC each. Not a huge deal, but it makes a standard Minnesota 5 mg dose impossible. You can only take dosages divisible by two.
Then we have the genuinely bizarre dark chocolate minis. The chocolate wafers contain 15 mg of THC each, with three in every pack. So, not only do you get 45 total milligrams of THC instead of the usual 50 mg, but you also need a ruler to cut up 5 mg doses. Or you can eyeball it, like I did.
And now we have the popcorn, which has no dosage information at all, except that the whole bag contains 50 mg of THC. The microscopic instructions on the back say “Eat 1/10 of bag per dose.” How in the ever loving eff am I supposed to eyeball 1/10 of a bag of popcorn? Sure, you could empty the whole bag on a counter, count how many flakes (popped kernels) there are then divide by 10, but show me one person on earth willing to do that.
This is a long way of saying that I have no idea how much THC I took for these tests, making a fair ranking basically impossible.
Xite THC Popcorn Test 1 (?? mg)
Having absolutely no idea (short of the tedious flake counting) how much to eat, I just gobbled down about 12-14 flakes right before dinner (chicken pesto). I would later realize that this was far more than 1/10 of the bag, but whose fault is that?
Onset took about 35 minutes, but I didn’t hit the peak until almost the two-hour mark. The peak was WAY more of a buzz than I want on a work night. It was on par with a Friday night 10 mg dose – maybe more. At the three-hour mark I was still hammered and, unsurprisingly, I had a moderate hangover the next day.
Test 2 (?? mg but less than Test 1)
Having learned my lesson, I only ate about 8-10 flakes for this test, and that was still too much. Oddly, even with the THC-boosting help of a rotisserie chicken behind it, it was nearly an hour between eating the flakes and the first tingle. I hit peak buzz about 30 minutes after that, which was still on the high side for a work night, but at least I wasn’t orbiting Jupiter.
Oddly, I was nodding off after about two hours. I don’t remember being tired, but the popcorn has equal parts CBD, so that’s certainly a factor. But why wasn’t I nodding off with the larger dose the night before?
The hangover the next day was negligible.
Test 3 (exactly five flakes, so maybe 5 mg?)
Having clearly overshot a 5 mg dose on the two previous nights, I decided to eat precisely five flakes for this test. Maybe each flake was about 1 mg?
Onset took about 50 minutes and I hit the peak 30 minutes later. Now this was akin to a 5 mg dose. Maybe just a hair less powerful than the average 5 mg dose of other products, but still a reasonable weeknight buzz. Again, the buzz persisted beyond the three-hour mark, so at least this stuff has staying power.
The straight dope on Xite THC Popcorn
It’s difficult to compare this stuff or rank it since I have no idea what dosages I was taking, though it seems an assumption of 1 mg of THC per flake is a somewhat safe guide to follow. But I really don’t know.
Since dosages are a mystery, I’m going to make the bold move to not rank this product. It’s not fair to compare it to other products when a dosage can be off by 1-3 mg or more.
At least the Xite THC popcorn has staying power. Being at or near peak buzz at the three-hour mark is impressive.
Another wrinkle is that each bag also contains 50 mg of CBD, which probably played a role in the longevity of the buzz and how well I slept.
