Review: On Point THC chocolate

On Point THC chocolate
On Point seems to have followed the pattern of several other local producers in terms of diversification. They do THC, CBD and… mushrooms? Are they fun mushrooms? And why does the product description for On Point THC chocolate say that it is “infused” with cordyceps (mushrooms)? Let’s find out.

I Google “cordyceps” to see what we were dealing with and I got the usual list of ailments that people think cordyceps might help or cure, without any, you know, scientific evidence. WebMD specifically says they “might improve immunity by stimulating cells and specific chemicals in the immune system. It might also help fight cancer cells and shrink tumor size, particularly with lung or skin cancers.” They save the unsurprising caveat for the end: “People most commonly use cordyceps for athletic performance, kidney disorders, liver problems, and sexual problems, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.”

Shocker.

Other sources are similarly littered with the word “might,” undoubtedly for legal reasons. So, let’s go ahead set aside the mushroom part of this product and focus on the parts we can actually verify.

On Point THC chocolate Test 1 (5 mg)

I ate a square of chocolate just before sitting down to a plate of pesto chicken. Onset took roughly 30 minutes and I hit the peak just after the one-hour mark. This was a respectable buzz for only 5 mg, hitting the high side of an acceptable work night buzz. In fact, it was almost perfect.

I detected a slight fade by the 3.5-hour mark, which is impressive, and I was in bed not long after. Nice.

Test 2 (5 mg)

I strayed from my usual food accompaniment and ate leftover pizza for this test. Onset took more than 40 minutes, but the peak arrived at the one-hour mark just like the previous test. I suppose the carbs must have played a roll, because this buzz was even stronger than the night before.

I was still feeling peak buzz at the 2.5-hour mark and, once again, I detected a slight fade at the 3.5-hour mark, but I was climbing into bed by that stage, so I still don’t know how long this stuff hangs around. My guess is quite a while.

Test 3 (10 mg)

I had the old standby rotisserie chicken with this test, a reliable THC booster in my experience.

Onset took about 35 minutes and the peak took a little longer, arriving just short of the 1.5-hour mark. After Test 2, I was expecting to be completely messed up, but it never quite got there. It was still a strong buzz, but not remarkable. Maybe I should have save the leftover pizza for this test. I think more tax write-offable pizza-driven experimentation is warranted.

There was a more pronounced fade at the 3.5-hour mark for this test, but I was still buzzing hard enough to fall asleep almost immediately, so who cares?

The straight dope on On Point THC chocolate

Uneven test results, which were possibly my fault, don’t diminish the fact that these things are great overall. I’m not sure that the infused mushrooms are making any difference, but On Point THC chocolate is relatively fast-acting, strong, with only a minor fade sometime after the three-hour mark, which is pretty good. Also, chocolate is rapidly becoming my favorite THC delivery vehicle.

They’re on the high side, price-wise, but at least you know where that money is going.
