Review: Xite Hard Candy

“Excited” is not a term I use often when referring to trying a new THC edible. Ambivalent, yes, excited, no. This is mainly due to the ever-present possibility that the product will suck and I’ll go to bed basically sober. But I was indeed excited to try the appropriately named Xite Hard Candy. I already knew Xite made great THC chocolate, so I fully expected the hard candy to be up to the same standards.
I also know from experience that hard candy at least has the potential to be great, so yes, excited.
One extra note, these candies pack equal parts THC and CBD, which in my experience has resulted in a small, but pleasant boost in performance.
Xite Hard Candy Test 1 (6 mg)
Xite’s bizarre commitment to unorthodox dosages is perhaps my only misgiving about this brand. The chocolates come in three-pieces, at 15 mg of THC per piece, for a total of 45 mg of THC in the package. Firstly, what happened to the missing 5 mg of THC? (Minnesota edibles usually come in packages with a total of 50 mg.)
Also, have you ever tried to cut a wafer of chocolate into perfectly even thirds, so you can eat Minnesota’s mandated 5 mg single dose? Well, now I have and I assure it’s annoying.
In that spirit, the Xite Hard Candies are 2 mg each. I wasn’t going to bother trying to cut a tiny ball of hard candy in half, so I went with a 6 mg dose.
I popped three candies into my mouth as I was heating up leftovers from Chimborazo. Onset took about 30 minutes from when the candy first touched my tongue (probably took at least five minutes to dissolve) till I felt the first hints of a buzz.
But the buzz came on slowly. It took another 30 minutes before the buzz hit its peak, which was a respectable weeknight high. Again, there was that extra 1 mg of THC, so I can’t compare the relative strength directly to other products in that regard.
A slow fade started at the 2.5-hour mark which was so feeble by the time I got into bed, that I needed a last minute hit of melatonin and ibuprofen to quiet my mind and busted-ass body enough to sleep.
Test 2 (6 mg)
As always, I wanted to give the Xite Hard Candy the best possible testing conditions, so I secured a reliable THC boosting rotisserie chicken for this test.
Onset took a little longer this time, about 45 minutes, but then the peak rushed up in about 15 minutes. True to rotisserie chicken form, this buzz was somewhat stronger than the previous test and my evening started late enough that I was still at peak buzz when I got into bed.
Again, I can’t fairly compare a 6 mg dose to a 5 mg dose, but this was the high side of an appropriate weeknight buzz.
Test 3 (10 mg)
Fortunately, “10” is an even number, so I could eat five candies to conduct my standard 10 mg test as it was meant to be done. With rotisserie chicken once again driving the THC molecules through my system, I got properly stoned.
Onset took about 45 minutes and I hit the peak another 20-ish minutes later. Perhaps it was the handfuls of chocolate I ate a little later, but there was a small but noticeable spike at the 1.5-hour mark, edging me into “what have I done?” weeknight buzz territory, but a slow fade started at the 3.5-hour mark and I was slightly more responsibly stoned at bedtime.
The straight dope on Xite Hard Candy
As always, your mileage may vary depending on what you eat, but under the right conditions these things are comfortably in the 85th percentile for Minnesota edibles. Maybe even 90th percentile. That bonus CBD certainly adds a little kick. A forced 6 mg dose is about perfect for a weeknight and the hangover the next day is negligible.
